Nihongo Language Scholarship Orientation
UM Conducts Orientation for Nihonggo Language Scholarship Grant, Enhances International and Inter-Institutional Collaboration
The University of Mindanao (UM) held an orientation for the Nihonggo Language Scholarship Grant last Saturday May 17, 2025 around 3pm to 5pm at the Mini Auditorium which was attended by 159 alumni and graduating participants. This event marks an achievement towards equipping UM graduates with global skills via language education and employment opportunities abroad.
This scholarship comes as a result of increasing collaboration between UM, LEAD, and Kagawa Prefecture in Japan. The focus of this collaboration is on promoting international exchange and cultural relations, while providing sustainable solutions to existing labor and language gaps through train-and-learn programs in Japan.
On the other hand, this initiative demonstrates the powerful collaboration within the academic and administrative support structure of the University, particularly the Institute of Languages from College of Arts and Sciences , the Alumni Affairs Office, and the Office of Academic Affairs. These units help in active candidate selection, preparing them culturally and linguistically, and aiding their global integration in pathways towards growth, career advancement, and employment.
As part of the orientation, dedicated sessions focused on the benefits of the scholarship, its application criteria, as well as obligations to the sponsoring institutions. In addition, motivational recordings by past grantees were presented during the session, which stimulated the attendees’s desire to pursue the opportunity quite meaningfully.
The program is aimed at enhancing the internationalization of education and training at the university level, thereby giving effect to the strategic plan of UM in establishing partnerships – whether regionally or globally – that will benefit the entire community.
